The countdown has begun for one of Fiji’s most prestigious media events, the Fiji Achievement in Media Excellence (FAME) Awards 2025, which is set to take place on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at the Novotel Lami Convention & Entertainment Centre, starting at 7.00pm.
Journalists across Fiji are vying for top honours.
This year’s ceremony carries special significance, marking 19 years since the censorship of Fiji’s newsrooms, a reminder of the resilience and evolution of the country’s media landscape.

The 2025 FAME Awards will be a full-circle moment, honouring the freedom to tell the stories that matter.
A total of 121 entries have been received from media professionals across the country, competing in 25 award categories.
According to FAME Awards chairman Shane Hussein, the response has been overwhelming.
“Between the Fijian Media Association and Fiji Media Council, we have designed the FAME Awards as one of the biggest events on the calendar for the country. I’ve been a part of many awards events in Fiji across business, tourism and sports,” Mr Hussein said.
“I can confidently say that the FAME Awards is going to be one of the most competitive awards events in our country. Our journalists and newsrooms have submitted 121 really strong applications in the various awards categories and our judges will have a delightfully difficult time shortlist finalists and selecting winners.”
The most contested categories for the FAME Awards receiving the greatest number of entries are:
- Best Feature Article (Print)
- Best Commentary, Analysis, Opinion or Critique (All Media)
- Best Coverage of iTaukei Affairs (All Media)
- Best Sports Journalism (All Media)
- Scoop of the Year (All Media)
- Best News & Sports Photography
- Young Journalist of the Year
- Best Coverage of a Major News Event or Issues
Judging is now underway, with finalists to be announced soon. All shortlisted nominees will receive complimentary invitations to the event, along with digital finalist badges.
From the pool of entries, judges will also select winners for:
- Radio Journalist of the Year
- Print Journalist of the Year
- TV Journalist of the Year
These three winners will form the shortlist for the event’s top honour — Journalist of the Year.
In addition to the awards, the 2025 edition will see the revival of the Fiji Media Hall of Fame, with five inductees to be honoured for their lifetime contributions to the industry.
With only a few tables and sponsorship slots remaining, Mr Hussein is encouraging businesses and supporters of the media to come onboard.
“A strong list of Fiji’s leading corporates and organisations have already come onboard as partners for the FAME Awards, and we are holding advanced discussions with other prominent brands. With only a handful of tables available and a few awards categories, we’re encouraging interested partners to reach out and join Suva’s most anticipated awards event.”
The FAME Awards 2025 promises to be a night of celebration, reflection, and recognition, spotlighting the best of Fiji’s journalism and media excellence.
