Fiji Sports Council begins search for new CEO

The Fiji Sports Council has begun recruiting a new chief executive officer, less than two months after the dismissal of Gilbert Vakalalabure.

The council has advertised the position, seeking an experienced executive to lead its strategic direction in line with national sports policies, statutory requirements and Government corporate standards.

The successful applicant will oversee the council's financial management, prepare annual budgets and drive revenue growth through sponsorships, facility bookings and grants.

The role also includes improving the use of sports venues, leading the digital transformation of booking systems, expanding grassroots sports programmes, and managing the council's public profile, brand and media relations.

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in business, sports management, public administration or a related field. A postgraduate qualification, such as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or a master's degree in sports management, will be an advantage.

Candidates are required to have more than 10 years of senior management experience, preferably in sport, the public sector or tourism.

The council is also seeking applicants with strong financial management experience, including oversight of budgets exceeding $5 million, corporate governance expertise and a proven ability to grow revenue.

Experience managing major capital projects, sports facilities and commercial sponsorships is also required, along with strong leadership, strategic planning, crisis management and stakeholder engagement skills.

Applicants must have a sound understanding of Fiji's sporting landscape, national sports policies and Pacific regional dynamics.

Strong communication and public speaking skills are essential, while proficiency in iTaukei or Fiji Hindi will be an advantage.
