Taveuni learns from loss, Navosa next

Taveuni head coach Josateki Satini said they have learned a lot from their Skipper Cup opener against Malolo at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.

He highlighted that his players performed well as they went down 24-23 against the defending Skipper Cup champions.

“We came with a mission to upset Malolo, but we didn’t get the result we wanted,” Satini said.

“We controlled the first half and led 20-14. The boys gave everything, and although we lost, we showed that we can compete at this level. I also thank the Malolo team for a great game.”

Satini said mistakes after the break proved costly.

“We made too many errors in the second half and conceded unnecessary penalties, which allowed Malolo back into the contest. That was the difference.”

While disappointed with the result, Satini believes the performance has given his side confidence heading into the rest of the season.

“We are new to the Skipper Cup competition, and there is a lot we can learn from a quality team like Malolo. We will use this defeat as motivation to improve, strengthen our squad and take each game as it comes.”

The coach also acknowledged the unwavering support from the people of Taveuni.

“I would like to thank our supporters and the people of Taveuni for standing behind the boys.

“We hope they will continue to support us in Round Two.”

This Saturday, Taveuni travels to Vatureba Park in Keiyasi to face Navosa.
