First fire of 2026 destroys Tacirua family home
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and investigations are underway.

The three - bedroom house in Tacirua that caught fire yesterday, sustained 99 per cent damage, the National Fire Authority (NFA) revealed in a media statement.
This is the first property fire reported for 2026.
NFA’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Joel Israel is calling on members of the public to maintain vigilance and to step up efforts to minimise unwanted fires.

"At 3.01pm (Saturday, 3rd January, 2023) the NFA’s Command Centre received an emergency call via 910 from a member of the public reporting a house fire at Princes Road, Tacirua," Mr Israel said.
"Fire crews from Suva Fire Station immediately responded, with the first fire truck arriving on scene at 3.12pm.
"Crews found a three-bedroom lean-to house fully engulfed in flames opposite the Tacirua Bus Garage.
"They used multiple hose deliveries and water supplies from fire trucks to bring the blaze under control. The fire was fully extinguished by 4.22pm.
"With a floor space of 396 square metres, the house sustained 99n per cent damage.
"Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and firefighters successfully prevented the fire from spreading to an adjoining house."
