Four people have died following a tragic motor vehicle accident early this morning in Vatukoula.

Police confirmed in a statement that their vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a nearby river.

The victims were returning from a family function in Ba when the driver, a man in his 40s, reportedly lost control of the car.

The 43-year-old driver, his wife, their nine-year-old daughter, and his sister-in-law were rushed to Tavua Hospital, where medical officials later confirmed their deaths.

A fifth passenger in the vehicle survived the crash and escaped serious injury.

Police have confirmed that investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
