Flexible working hours will be introduced across Fiji’s civil service by the end of the year to improve productivity and work-life balance.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced the change in Parliament this morning while outlining reforms aimed at modernising the public service.

Responding to the President’s address at the opening of the 2026 parliamentary session, Mr Rabuka said building a modern public service also required modernising the way government works.

He said the reforms were part of broader workforce planning and human capital development.

“By the end of this year: Flexible working hours will be formally introduced across the Civil Service, improving productivity and work-life balance.”

The Government will also introduce strategic workforce planning across the public sector.

“Strategic Workforce Plans will be developed for the Civil Service as a whole.”

Mr Rabuka said the reforms would help ensure the public service has the skills required to meet national priorities.

“These workforce plans will ensure the right skills are in place to meet national priorities — today and in the future.”
