Social worker and youth advocate Abdul Zorhab yesterday called out social media commentators, pleading with them to avoid spreading false information.

Mr Zorhab, 21, became a victim of online vilification when pictures of him and former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum in Court on Tuesday, May 2 were widely circulated online claiming that he was a Bangladeshi national who was paid to be part of Sayed-Khaiyum’s security detail.

While correcting this misinformation yesterday, Mr Zorhab said he was a Fijian born national that was only present in court to support the former A-G.

This was when Sayed-Khaiyum appeared in court after being charged.

“I would like to strongly deny the allegations made against me by a certain troll page on social media. I was born and raised in Fiji, and I am a proud supporter of the FijiFirst party and former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum,” Mr Zorhab said.

“I have lived in Lautoka all my life and I am a youth advocate and social worker,” he said.

“I urge people online sharing all sorts of information to do better things.”

Mr Zorhab was a former student of Lautoka Muslim Primary and Lautoka Muslim College.

He was also a student of the University of the South Pacific.

“I have never been a member of the Bangladeshi special forces Crack Platoon, nor am I a member of Mr Sayed-Khaiyum’s close protection team.

“These are entirely baseless rumours, and I urge anyone who has spread them to retract their statements immediately.”
