Two Labasa cane farmers have welcomed the Fiji Sugar Corporation’s (FSC) move towards a digital platform, describing it as a timely and progressive step for the sugar industry.

Sugarcane farmer Ramesh Chand of Daku, Labasa, said the introduction of the FSC Grower Portal would make accessing information easier and more reliable.

“Sometimes we misplace our cane pay slips or they arrive late. With everything online, I can check my payments anytime on my phone,” Mr Chand said.

“It is also better for the environment. Less paper means less waste,” he said.

Another farmer, Surendra Lal of Wailevu, Labasa, shared similar views, noting that younger family members could assist older farmers.

“Our children use smartphones every day. They can help us log in and check statements. This change will save time and reduce trips to the office,” Mr Lal said.

FSC has reminded all growers to register on the FSC Grower Portal by March 31, 2026, marking a significant shift towards a paperless system.

From the third cane payment scheduled for March, printed cane pay statements will no longer be issued, requiring growers to access their statements online through the portal.

Growers are required to download the FSC Grower Portal app from Google Play or the App Store, register using an active Grower Registration Number, and complete the first‑time login process using a one‑time password (OTP). Required documents must also be uploaded during registration.

FSC said the portal would provide multiple services on a single platform, improving efficiency, transparency, and convenience for growers across the country.

The initiative reflects FSC’s commitment to sustainability and marks a clear step towards a paperless, greener future for Fiji’s sugar industry.
