Man, 40, charged over Laqere police checkpoint attack

A 40-year-old man will be produced at the Nasinu Magistrates Court today charged with the attempted murder of a police officer.

Police said the accused was one of three men in a vehicle that drove into a roadblock manned by an officer in Laqere.

The accused was discharged from the Colonial War Memorial Hospital on May 1, 2026.

Following consultations with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, he has been charged with one count each of attempted murder, serious assault and going equipped for theft or a property offence.

The other two suspects remain admitted in hospital.

The officer remains admitted in critical condition.
