An incident where a 42-year-old man was charged with the rape of a 25-year-old man was among 10 indictments filed in the High Court in March 2026.

Both the accused and the victim were cellmates at a police station when the alleged incident took place.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the 10 indictments involved a total of 18 counts of serious sexual offences.

These included 11 counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, two counts of defilement and four counts of sexual assault.

A total of 12 accused persons were charged, including one juvenile, while there were 10 victims, four of whom were under the age of 18.

The ODPP data also highlighted a range of cases, including incidents involving co-workers, family members and individuals known to victims.

In one case, a 17-year-old boy with an 18-year-old man and a 22-year-old man were charged with the rape of an 18-year-old girl from their village.

In a separate case, a 37-year-old man was charged with the rape of his co-worker, while in another, a 48-year-old man was charged with the rape of a 30-year-old woman known to his family.

In another case, a 36-year-old man was charged with one count of rape and four counts of sexual assault of his 12-year-old stepdaughter

There were also domestic-related incidents, including cases involving stepdaughters and in-laws, although some matters were later discontinued due to insufficient evidence or false complaints.

The ODPP said four cases were discontinued after Nolle Prosequi applications were filed due to insufficient evidence, unavailability of witnesses and false complaints.
