Man in custody over alleged social media threat

Police warn online content inciting violence may lead to prosecution.

A man in his 50s is in Police custody after allegedly posting a social media threat involving Fiji's Constitution and the nation's capital.

Police said the suspect was questioned yesterday by investigators from the Cybercrime Division at the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters and remains in custody while investigations continue.

Police also reminded social media users that posts deemed to incite violence, or the sharing of such content, may be investigated under offences including Urging Political Violence, Criminal Intimidation, Malicious Acts Prejudicial to Public Safety and Incitement to Violence.
