A 41-year-old man has been remanded in custody after police allegedly discovered methamphetamine and thousands of dollars in cash during a vehicle search in Narere.

The accused appeared in the Nasinu Magistrates Court charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs and one count of possession of proceeds of crime.

According to police, officers from the Southern Division were conducting a mobile patrol along Omkar Road, Narere, on the morning of June 17 when they stopped the accused's vehicle.

The accused was formally charged and remanded in custody until July 2.

Meanwhile, police say arrests for unlawful possession and unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs continue across all five policing divisions.

The Fiji Police Force has also acknowledged the increasing number of tips being received through the 1681 toll-free line, which have assisted officers in seizing illicit substances, cash and uncovering other offences.

Police said information received from members of the public recently led to the discovery of liquor allegedly being sold without a licence during one operation.

Investigations are continuing.
