A 20-year-old man, believed to be the son of a military officer, was allegedly assaulted at Mead Road Housing in Nabua on the night of May 2, raising fresh concerns in the wake of a recent death in military custody.

Police have confirmed the incident and have stated that one person is currently being questioned by the police after a formal report has been lodged, and officers are continuing their investigations.

While details of the assault are still unclear, the case has drawn attention because it comes shortly after the death of Jone Vakarisi, who died last month while in military custody. Vakarisi’s death caused public concern and calls for accountability, with many questioning the treatment of individuals in custody.

It is not yet confirmed whether the Nabua assault is directly linked to Vakarisi’s case. However, some are alleging a possible connection, given the timing and the background of the victim. Authorities have not made any official statement supporting this claim.

Police are yet to fully establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Investigations are ongoing, and more information is expected to be released once confirmed.
