After a life-changing car accident in 2018 left her wheelchair-bound, Litia Naitagui has turned adversity into strength.
Now in her eighth year using a wheelchair, Ms Naitagui says the mobility aid has become central to her daily life, allowing her to work, travel, and move independently.
“I am happy using my wheelchair because it helps me go everywhere,” she said, describing how it enables her to travel around Fiji and overseas.

Far from limiting her, the wheelchair has opened doors. Ms Naitagui uses it to manage tasks at home and participate in farming, demonstrating that people with disabilities can remain productive and self-reliant.
“In our home, we believe in working independently,” she said.
“Using a wheelchair allows me to do everything I want to do without relying on other people.”
Her story reflects a shift from dependence after her accident in Suva to a renewed sense of purpose and confidence.
Through determination and support, she has redefined what ability looks like.
Ms Naitagui acknowledged the role of partner organisations and donors in providing mobility aids that make such transformations possible, expressing gratitude for their continued support of the disability community.
She said the devices were more than tools; they were enablers of opportunity, helping people with disabilities realise their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society.
Ms Naitagui’s journey stands as a testament to resilience, showing that even after tragedy, independence can be rebuilt one step at a time and that disability does not limit capability when the right support is in place.
