New Fijian Artists Exhibit Talent, Skills

More than 40 pieces of artwork were on display during an art exhibition launch last Thursday at Alliance Française de Suva.

The paintings and portraits were presented by seven new Fijian artists. Alliance Française director of Culture and Communications Pauline Ferté, said the exhibition by the artists aimed to support and give visibility to the local young creation.

“Alliance Française de Suva gives an opportunity to the young talents of Fiji to display their work for two weeks in its premises,” she said.

The exhibition is the second held this year. All the pieces were displayed with informative captions and artist introductions.

“These elements clearly highlight the variety of artistic approaches and goals,” Ms Ferté said. “The exhibition is a perfect occasion to gather up local creative community around this whole new scene, expanding and strengthening the network of arts enthusiasts and professionals.

“It was obvious to organise this event and to encourage new, young and aspiring artists of Fiji to show what they have.”

She said many different genres and crafting techniques were showcased to the crowd.

“Among them, you will see ethnical patterns, realistic portraits, pop art, socially engaged pieces, digital paintings and so on.”

She is encouraging Fijians to look out for such events.

“If you are not confident enough to display your artwork yet then you can send us your art portfolio and keep an eye on our Facebook page,” Ms Ferté said.
