Police Constable Akariva Tamakai, based in Lami, was treated to a New Year tradition from a member of the public while on duty, as a gesture of appreciation for the work carried out during the festive season.

"It might have been a short working week, but it certainly has been a busy one for frontline operations," Fiji Police said in a statement.

"As we head into the weekend, we thank you all sincerely for cooperating with law enforcement, and for welcoming officers out on community and beat patrol

While New Year celebrations continue around the country, the Fiji Police Force is urging the public everyone to celebrate responsibly.

"There have been reports of people throwing water on moving vehicles, and we ask everyone to refrain from doing this as it is a serious safety concern for drivers, passengers and other road users," Fiji Police said.

Police is also urging drivers to be vigilant and alert on the roads.

"With the current weather situation not so favorable in some parts of Fiji, drivers are urged to take necessary precautionary measures."
