Eight police officers have had their mobile phones seized for digital forensic analysis as investigations widen into alleged collusion with an individual believed to be linked to the drug trade.

Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu said the allegations stem from Viber conversations initiated by a person who is believed to be residing overseas. He said the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and New Zealand Police (NZP) have been quick to assist after Fiji Police sought support.

Analysis by the Criminal Investigations Department of social media posts allegedly implicated the eight officers, leading to the seizure of their devices.

Commissioner Tudravu said investigators have also made contact with the individual who posted the screenshots online, with the next step being to obtain a formal statement.

He said the allegations were serious and all avenues would be explored to verify the claims. Investigators have been directed to expedite the case, and regular updates will be provided to the public.
