PM Rabuka: Joint Forces can handle drugs crisis

National Security Council to issue statement on status and possible emergency stance.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and Police are capable of handling the current drug situation.

He made the comment when asked about the National Security Council’s assessment of the drug crisis in Fiji.

“It’s normal. The military and police are capable of handling the situation,” Mr Rabuka told this masthead.

Members of the council who met on Thursday, May 1, included the Prime Minister, Minister for Defence Pio Tikoduadua, Minister for Policing Ioane Naivalurua, and Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai.

Mr Rabuka said a statement would be released soon outlining the national security status and the council’s position on a possible state of emergency.
