Police CID Chief under investigation

Criminal Investigations Department (CID) director and former Counter Narcotics Bureau director Serupepeli Neiko is under investigation over allegations of abuse of office.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) confirmed that a file relating to the allegations has been referred to its office for review.

The alleged incident is said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that Police had forwarded the file to the ODPP.

When asked whether Mr Neiko had been suspended, Ms Naisoro denied the claim.

She said Mr Neiko and other senior officers had been directed to take leave because they had accumulated outstanding leave entitlements.

The ODPP has not indicated whether any charges will be laid.
