In an interesting twist, the Fiji Police Force has launched an investigation into a senior official of the FICAC Commission of lnquiry over allegations of document falsification.
Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu confirmed that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is handling the matter.
“I confirm receipt of a complaint against a senior official of the Commission of Inquiry on allegations of falsification of documents and that CID is investigating the matter," Commissioner Tudravu said.
Meanwhile, COI Commissioner Justice David Ashton-Lewis expressed "grave concern" yesterday over the lack of progress on the Col's findings.
More than 14 weeks after submitting his report to President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu and Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, only two of the 17 recommendations have been acted upon.
"I have taken the unusual step of releasing this statement because I am gravely concerned about the lack of action on the part of the State to implement the 17 recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry," he said.
To date, Barbara Malimali and her deputy, Lisiate Fotofili, have been removed, a redacted version of the report has been released, and former Attorney-General Graham Leung has been dismissed.
