The conduct of two police officers involved in the arrest of a man suspected of unlawful possession of drugs in Nadi will be addressed, Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says.

The incident, which was captured on video and circulated on social media, occurred on February 21, 2026, while the officers were on beat patrol in Nadi.

According to Police, the officers approached two men who were acting suspiciously. One of the men fled the scene.

The remaining suspect, seen in the video, was questioned and several sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana were allegedly found in his possession.

Police said the suspect refused to cooperate, which led to the confrontation captured on video.

Commissioner Tudravu said the footage highlighted the challenges officers face when attempting to arrest individuals who do not comply.

He said while officers are trained to apply reasonable force, situations can vary and may require necessary action to restrain suspects.

The Commissioner added that officers are aware of the consequences of using excessive force, noting that police officers have been charged and produced in court when found to have abused their authority.

He again called on members of the public to cooperate with police to avoid similar incidents.
