Police have seized 16 bullets from a Wailoku home after a 42-year-old woman discovered a packet in her late father’s bedroom on Boxing Day.

The retired military officer’s former bedroom, locked for years, concealed the ammunition until the festive cleaning revealed it, prompting a police investigation.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime, Mesake Waqa, confirmed the bullets were taken into custody and are now awaiting analysis by the military police.

The woman, who has lived in the family home for 30 years, found the bullets while sweeping a room previously used by her elder sister, who has since moved out.

She initially placed the bullets on milestonon a living room shelf and planned to report the dis covery the same day, but delayed lodging the report for two days.

A report was eventually filed at Samabula Police Station. Mr Waqa said the discovery was made while the woman was pre paring the home for family visi tors during the festive season.

Wailoku has a population of about 4000, with crime occur ring roughly once every three months. Authorities say there are plans to increase police numbers in stations across the country to boost public safety.
