Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho has confirmed that security will be present at the proposed protest organised by the Fiji Trades Union Congress.
The union’s protest is said to be aimed at raising workers’ voices and issues drawing the attention of the annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank in Nadi on May 3.
“We will step in if there is anything illegal in the process of it happening,” Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho said.

“If they have broken the law, we will deal with it when we get to it but we are certainly monitoring it and investigations are already underway into some of the issues in regard to that intended process.”
Information on how many officers will be stationed at the protest venues could not be disclosed.
“For the conference itself, the number of Police officers we dedicate to that, we do not normally divulge that information for security reasons but if it is a nationwide protest certainly the whole police force is going to be involved.”
Police are closely monitoring the proposed protest and will ensure law and order is maintained during and after the conference.
“We are aware of that issue and we are well into our intelligence or information gathering and digesting that into intelligence therefore we are already drawing up our causes of action to dealing with it,” he said.
“And so, preparations are already underway to prevent some of the likely breaches of the law that might occur.”
