Ports Of Entry Gets 5 Cabinet X-Ray Machines From Aussie

The ports of entry in Fiji have been boosted with five new cabinet x- ray machine units.

The consignment from the Australian High Commission was worth $890,000.

Two have been installed at the Nadi airport, two will be placed in Suva and one in Lautoka.

During the handing over ceremony at the Nadi International Airport yesterday, Australian Ambassador to Fiji John Feakes said the equipment was exactly the same used in their airports in Australia.

“This will further bolster border security arrangements, they are already very good and these will provide an added boost,” Mr Feakes said.

“I believe it will assist in the huge influx of tourists that will be coming up and ease the processing. The important thing to remember also relates, machines provide three years of maintenance if required.”

Mr Feakes added the opening of the Australian international borders on Monday made Australia look forward to welcoming Fijian families to Australia.

“Others want to travel to Australia to visit family and friends in the last two years. It’s very exciting for Australia to welcome back international tourists like Fiji. International tourism is a big export for Australia. We have opened our borders in a safe and secure way.”
