The Registrar of Political Parties has rejected the application to register the proposed NextGen Alliance Party after it failed to meet the minimum membership requirements in three divisions.
Registrar Ms Ana Mataiciwa said the party did not have the required number of verified members in the Central, Western and Northern divisions.
While the party submitted more than the minimum number of members on paper, verification showed shortfalls in three divisions.

In the Central Division, 1,828 members were verified against the required 2,000. The Western Division recorded 1,482 verified members, below the required 1,750, while the Northern Division had 882 verified members against a requirement of 1,000.
The party met the threshold in the Eastern Division, with 266 verified members exceeding the minimum requirement of 250.
Overall, the party submitted 7,716 names but only 4,458 members were verified, falling short of the total legal requirement of 5,000.
“As such, the application has not been approved, and the decision has been formally communicated to the representatives of the party, outlining the legal requirements that have not been met,” Ms Mataiciwa said.
She said political party registration is governed by established legal standards to ensure transparency, accountability and compliance within Fiji’s electoral framework, and that all applications are assessed consistently and in accordance with the law.
Ms Mataiciwa said the proposed NextGen Alliance Party has the right to appeal the decision within 14 days of receiving the notice.
She added that the Fijian Elections Office remains committed to providing guidance to applicants to ensure registration processes are understood and properly followed, while maintaining the integrity of the political party registration framework.
The proposed NextGen Alliance Party lodged its application for registration on November 21, 2025.
