The Ministry of iTaukei Affairs has invited members of the public to attend the 2026 Ratu Sukuna Day celebrations, which will be held in Lautoka later this month.

The main celebration will take place on Friday, May 29, at Churchill Park.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka will attend as chief guest.

Celebrations will begin a day earlier on Thursday, May 28, at Wairuku Primary School in Rakiraki with the soft launch of the 2026 programme and the opening of the Ratu Sukuna Library.

This year’s celebrations will be held under the theme: “Ratu Sukuna – The Vision to Build, The Courage to Lead.”

Minister for iTaukei Affairs Ifereimi Vasu said the celebrations honoured the life and legacy of Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna.

“Ratu Sukuna’s legacy continues to speak to us today. His vision was not only for the advancement of the iTaukei people, but for a stronger and more united Fiji. This year’s celebration reminds us to continue building on that vision through education, service and responsible leadership,” Mr Vasu said.

The ministry said the opening of the Ratu Sukuna Library recognised Ratu Sukuna’s belief in education as a foundation for leadership, service and national development.

Members of the public, schools, communities and civil society organisations have been encouraged to attend the celebrations in Ra and Lautoka.
