Reconnecting bloodlines: Buatavatava descendants return to Verata

For over a year, generations, stories of origins, migrations and chiefly alliance have been carried through oral traditional, reminding us the deep connections between our iTaukei culture.
On Friday September 12th, the descendants of Buatavatava returns to Ucunivanua, Verata, Tailevu was more than just a visit, it was a reconnection of their blood lines, vanua, and chiefly ties that stretch across provinces and its generations.

Their return to Verata is a symbolic journey back to the roots of identity. It honors the legacy of Koya na Ratu and his banished son Buatavatava- the Naulumatua, a person whose name is deeply connected to the vanua o Verata.
