Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, manager planning, Soko Tuimasaid one of the key outcomes of the formulation of the National Rural Development Policy (NRDP) was strengthening corporate governance and developing the ministry’s plan aligned with its new organisational structure.

Mr Tuima said it was critical to guide the implementation of the NRDP in a way that aligns the ministry’s structure with the recommendations discussed during the multi-stakeholder consultation.

He added that while it is too early to determine if some positions will be removed, there will be a strengthening of provincial development systems to mirror the current divisional-level development structure.

“The recommendations have already been approved by the government through a cabinet decision in October, establishing the provincial development system,” Mr Tuima said.

He said part of the consultation was to determine the structure, which will differ across provinces. What works best for Macuata may differ from what is suitable for Cakaudrove.

“The restructuring will take place after July. We are scheduling our programme so that by July we should be able to present the NRDP to cabinet. Once endorsed, we will finalise the structure for the various provinces,” he said.
