The Ministry of Sugar Industry has launched Starlink internet service and commissioned a new vehicle at Wainikoro Station in Labasa.
Minister for Sugar Industry Tomasi Tunabuna said the initiative is expected to improve communication, field operations and support services for farmers across remote parts of the Northern Division.
Mr Tunabuna said the upgrade marked a major step in modernising the ministry's operations in rural Fiji.

He said the introduction of reliable internet connectivity would significantly improve how officers deliver services to farming communities across Nadogo, Dogotuki, Namuka, Udu and Cikobia.
“This is a significant step forward in strengthening service delivery, improving communication and supporting the communities we serve,” Mr Tunabuna said.
He said the Starlink installation, valued at $11,322, would allow officers to access real-time agricultural information, reporting systems, weather updates and training resources.
Mr Tunabuna also handed over the keys to a new station vehicle, which will be used by officers to conduct farm visits, monitor activities and deliver extension services across the region.
He said the vehicle would strengthen the ministry's outreach and ensure farmers receive timely assistance in the field.
“The vehicle and internet service together will greatly improve our ability to reach farmers and respond to their needs more efficiently,” he said.
Wainikoro Station is staffed by three officers who provide extension and advisory services to farming communities across the wider Macuata region.
The ministry said the combined investment is part of ongoing efforts to modernise agricultural services and improve productivity in rural areas.
Officials said the upgrades would reduce delays in communication, improve data reporting and enhance coordination between field officers and headquarters.
Farmers in the region are expected to benefit through faster access to technical advice and improved response times from extension officers.
