Teacher charged over alleged abduction of Year 10 student

A 39-year-old teacher has been charged over the alleged abduction of a Year 10 student in Taveuni.

Police said the teacher and the student had allegedly been communicating through Messenger about plans to be together.

The alleged messages were discovered by the teacher’s wife, who reported the matter to the school principal.

It is alleged that on the night of June 7, 2026, the teacher was found with the student inside his vehicle near her home.

The matter was subsequently reported to Police for investigation.

The teacher has been accused of one count of abduction and is expected to appear in the Taveuni Magistrates Court today.
