Two men rescued after boat drifts in Beqa waters

Two men were rescued in Beqa waters over the weekend after their fibreglass boat developed mechanical problems.

Police said the National Police Command Centre received a report in the early hours of Saturday, March 28, that the men were drifting at sea.

A coordinated response by officers from Lami and Navua was launched, with a rescue team deployed using a boat provided by a member of the public in Navua.

The team later located the two men, Trevor Joy and Watisoni Taukei, and brought them safely back to shore.

Police acknowledged the assistance of the public in ensuring the success of the operation.

Members of the public are advised to call the toll-free line 1681 or the National Command Centre on 9905 296 if they require assistance in similar situations.
