The new school year looks promising for Vunivutu Primary School in Nadogo, Macuata after Tropical Cyclone Yasa in 2020.

The project included upgrading and equipping the rural-based school into a modern learning hub.

The Grace Road Group undertook the project of rebuilding the school.

School manager Buli Cama said the redevelopment marked a turning point, not only for the school, but for surrounding communities.

“The school was rebuilt within four months. This development is about securing a better future for our children,” Mr Cama said.

The upgrade included four classrooms, one kindergarten, four teachers’ quarters, a library, and a fully equipped computer room.

Mr Cama said previously, the school roll was 70 students, and with the new infrastructure, the roll could increase to 200.

“The investment aligned with national goals to strengthen education access in rural and semirural areas, reducing pressure on overcrowded urban schools while ensuring quality education closer to home.”

The redevelopment is already generating interest from neighbouring villages, with families seeking enrolment opportunities for 2026.

“This school is no longer just for Vunivutu Village. We are inviting nearby villages to send their children here,” he said.

The improved facilities would help attract qualified teachers, enhance digital literacy through the computer room, and foster a stronger reading culture via the new library.
