Former permanent secretary of the Prime Minister's Office, Peter Wise, has been earmarked as Fiji's next Ambassador to Japan.

This was confirmed yesterday by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.

Mr Wise is set to replace Filimone Waqabaca, who is expected to return to the country to head the Fiji Development Bank (FDB).

Mr Wise voluntarily resigned from his role as permanent secretary on September 25, citing personal reasons.

However, Prime Minister Rabuka later disclosed that his office had received a sexual harassment claim against Mr Wise, which was referred to the Public Service Commission (PSC).

Mr Rabuka previously said Mr Wise was presented with the issue, leading to his voluntary resignation.

Mr Wise had served as permanent secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister since January 2023 and held similar roles in previous administrations.
