A 28-year-old Yapese woman, arrested during recent Police raids this week, is listed on Palau’s “undesirable alien” register.
The undesirable alien register includes foreign nationals whose entry permits have been denied or revoked by presidential order for reasons deemed in the country’s best interests. The list has been in existence since 2016.
She is believed to be connected to an Asian drug syndicate.
The woman is originally from Palau but holds citizenship in the Federated States of Micronesia.
Palau’s register reportedly includes several Chinese nationals and people linked to drug activity.
Police say the woman of interest has ties to organised crime networks in the Pacific. Locally, she is in a relationship with a man in Suva. She is also linked to another man in Palau involved in drugs.
The Chinese Embassy condemned the actions of its nationals arrested in the raids. It reiterated China’s “zero-tolerance” stance on drug crimes.
The embassy urged citizens abroad to obey local laws and avoid criminal activity.
Investigations are ongoing into her role and the broader network operating across Fiji and the Pacific.
