Young man dies after being run over by vehicle in Nadi

Director of Traffic Control Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana has urged young people to avoid walking or being near busy roads while under the influence of alcohol.

Police are investigating a fatal incident in Nadi in which a young man died early yesterday morning after being run over by a vehicle.

Police said the victim, a student, was allegedly intoxicated and believed to have been lying on the roadside when he was struck by a passing vehicle.

He was taken to Nadi Hospital, where he later died.

Director of Traffic Control Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana has urged young people to avoid walking or being near busy roads while under the influence of alcohol.

“When you are intoxicated, please avoid walking along a busy road,” SSP Divuana said.

“You only put yourself and other road users at risk.”

The driver of the vehicle, a man, is currently in police custody as investigations into the incident continue.
