Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining independence in his role as head of Government.

He assured Fijians that his decisions would not be influenced by traditional or personal ties.

When questioned about his ability to remain independent given his traditional links to the Vakalalabure family and to the President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, who both hail from Cakaudrove, Mr Rabuka said that he would uphold the principles of the law and the Constitution.

“Yes, I can say that I will act independently as Prime Minister and will not be influenced by social media or any exchanges in the press,” Mr Rabuka said.

“I will be governed by the law, the Constitution, and the various acts that define my executive authority.”

Mr Rabuka's remarks come amid public discussions about political neutrality and the importance of preserving institutional independence within the nation's leadership.
