Suva Port records 9658 container volume for August

The container volume for August recorded a slight decrease of -346 at Lautoka Port.

There was an increase in container volume recorded at Suva Port for the month of August.

Container volume records from the Fiji Ports Terminal Limited showed that in July, Suva Port recorded 8815 container volume.

Compared to 9658 container volume recorded in August.

Fiji Ports Terminal Limited chief executive officer Hasthika Dela said there was an 843 difference between the two months.

Mr Dela said that 23 container vessels had arrived in August.

Meanwhile the Lautoka Port recorded 6937 container volume in July.

The container volume for August recorded a slight decrease of -346 at Lautoka Port.

“Globally, ports are critically challenged by geopolitical tensions and their impact on global trade, labour shortages and issues, increasing costs, mismatches between demand and supply, and environmental and regulatory changes,” Mr Dela said.

For the month of August, vessels that arrived at Suva port included two car carriers, one clinker, four oil tankers, one passenger cruise ship and one Navy vessel.

In Lautoka Port, 18 container vessels and two wheat bulk carriers arrived in August.
