Lomaiviti Princess 12 crew hailed after rescuing six missing medical workers

The captain and crew of Goundar Shipping Services' Lomaiviti Princess 12 have been commended after rescuing six medical professionals who had been reported missing at sea, bringing an anxious search in the Lau Group to a successful end.

The six were found about 11 nautical miles southwest of Lakeba after an extensive search involving Government agencies, emergency responders, mariners and international partners.

In a statement, the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Naval Division thanked mariners and vessels operating in the area for responding swiftly to the emergency.

"We extend our sincere appreciation to the mariners and vessels operating in the area who responded promptly and supported the search effort. Special acknowledgement is extended to the captain and crew of Lomaiviti Princess 12 for locating and successfully rescuing the missing individuals. Bravo Zulu."

The six individuals were safely rescued after being located by the vessel.

The RFMF also acknowledged the combined efforts of all those involved in the operation.

"We also thank all government agencies, search teams, communities and individuals whose collective efforts contributed to this successful outcome. May the good Lord bless you all."

The Naval Division said the successful outcome demonstrated the importance of cooperation between emergency agencies and the maritime community.

"This incident demonstrates the importance of cooperation, vigilance and commitment amongst agencies and mariners."

The rescue concluded a large-scale search operation that had involved aerial and maritime assets, including the Fiji Navy, emergency response agencies and support from international partners. The six medical professionals had been reported missing after their vessel failed to reach its destination in the Lau Group.
