The Port of Kiritimati is implementing weight restrictions on shipments, causing operational challenges on Kiritimati Island.

In response to these challenges, NPDL (Neptune Pacific Direct Line Pte Ltd) has announced new guidelines for shipments to the island.

Effective from January 11, NPDL will no longer accept full containers weighing over 25 tons per container on NPDL vessels for delivery outside the port gates.

NPDL said the weight restrictions was a necessary measure to address ongoing operational difficulties at the port.

“This decision aims to ensure the safety and efficiency of cargo transportation to Kiritimati Island.

“While the weight restrictions may hinder the movement of heavier containers, importers still have the opportunity to ship containers packed to their maximum capacity.

“However, these containers must be unpacked within the port area. Importers will be responsible for managing the costs and arrangements for this service with the Port company.”

NPDL acknowledged that these challenges were beyond their control, and they assure customers that they would continue to monitor the situation closely.

The weight restrictions will remain in place until further notice, and NPDL will keep their clients informed of any updates or changes to the restrictions.

“We understand that these weight restrictions may cause some inconvenience for our clients, but our priority is to ensure the smooth operations and safety of all shipments to Kiritimati Island.

“We appreciate your continued support during this time, and our team is available to address any questions or concerns you may have,” NPDL stated.
