Heavy rain cuts road access across three divisions

Several roads and crossings around the country are closed due to flooding following heavy rainfall.

In a statement this morning, the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has advised that in the Central Division, Wainadiro Village Road in Serua is not accessible.

In the Western Division, the following crossings and roads are affected:

  • Nadelei Crossing 4, Nadelei Road, Rakiraki
  • Nasaucoko Culvert Crossing, Nasaucoko Road, Sigatoka
  • Nasaucoko Culvert, Nasaucoko Road, Sigatoka
  • Nukuilau Crossing, Valley Road, Sigatoka
  • Queens Road at Semo Village (closed; alternative route available)

In the Northern Division, closures include:

  • Qelemumu Crossing, Coqeloa Road, Labasa
  • Nakama Crossing, Naduna Road, Labasa
  • Nakelikoso Road, Labasa
  • Qawa Crossing, Qawa Road, Labasa
  • Kawakawavesi Crossing, Kawakawavesi Road, Natua
  • Vunivere Crossing, Lalakoro Road, Natua
  • Lalakoro Crossing 2, Lalakoro Road, Natua
  • Naqumu Crossing, Naqumu Road, Natua
  • Nasigasiga Crossing 2, Nasigasiga Nabitu Road, Natua

The authority also provided an update on works at Semo Village, where a road slip at the Armco Crossing yesterday has affected traffic flow.

According to a FRA statement, construction of a temporary bypass road to accommodate vehicles is progressing well.

It stated that clearing and grubbing works on the bypass were nearing 90 per cent completion as of 5am today.

The FRA urged motorists and road users to exercise caution when travelling.
