Extra Boost In Jasper’s Mission

This year’s Coca-Cola Games is expected to be one of the most competitive when compared to previous years.

The Extra Supermarket sponsored- Jasper Williams High School athletics team coach Watisoni Bose Delana at­tributed this year’s stiff competition to the two-year lapse due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“All schools will be coming with their best preparations and the enthusiasm brought about by the two-year lapse will contribute to some great competi­tion,” he said.

Delana said his team of 39 athletes are ready to compete as they have pre­pared well.

“Our aim this year is to improve on our standings from the last Coke Games in 2019 where we finished fourth,” he said.

“We recently won the Lautoka Zone and have been preparing since then.

Adi Cakobau School is the defending champions but for us our immediate aim is to improve on the 2019 placing.”

Extra Supermarket operations man­ager, Ravinesh Deo, while presenting the $7000 uniform sponsorship for the athletes at the school yes­terday said sports brought people together and that is why the com­pany chose to support Jasper Wil­liams High School.

He said sport was a powerful weapon in combating Non Commu­nicable Diseases (NCDs).

“The Coca-Cola Games is a pre­mier sporting event in Fiji.

“And participating will help grow the overall personality of partici­pants and instill in them the disci­pline and work ethics that are es­sential for life,” Deo said.

He said Jasper Williams High School was one of the oldest and most prominent girl’s schools in the country and has an excellent track record.

The athletics team was blessed by Dr Reverend Immanuel Reuben be­fore they departed for Suva in the afternoon.
