While England will be a tough task, anything is possible says Rooster Chicken Fijiana 15s defence coach Mosese Rauluni.
The former Flying Fijian skipper, Rauluni, made the comment on Monday while the Fijiana women’s rugby representatives had their first training session in Auckland for their debut World Cup outing on October 8 at Eden Park, Auckland.
“It’s a bit of a change; the game against Canada helped us in the rain. It was a bit cooler but not as cold as it is here in Auckland,”
“The weather can change in a second and it’s good that the girls are out in the field having a run round, getting used to this weather.”
“I don’t think it will change much next week, we’ve got plans for a couple of sessions this week, getting them used to the wind, rain and the softer fields.”
“I think there are still a lot of areas we have to better in our defence.”
Greg’s (Smith) is working with the set piece but it is quite difficult obviously when we put pressure on our defence.
But the girls worked really hard on the week before the Canada Test and it improved.”
The Sereima Leweniqila-captained side had lost to Canada last Friday 24-7 at the HFC Bank Stadium; one day later (Sunday) they jetted out of Nadi for Auckland.
The Fijiana side is in Pool C with the two top ranked in world women’s rugby, England and France.
The fourth team is South Africa.
“We’re going to get better because England is a different team, so we’re going to work a lot on defence, attack and obviously the set piece.
We got a lot of time, two weeks of training here,” Rauluni said.
“I think playing against Canada gave them (Fijiana) a bit of confidence, the England girls are only human, we’re gonna worry about ourselves and do the little things right.”
Fiji games: October 8 vs England at 4.45, Eden Park, Auckland, October 16 vs South Africa at 5.45pm, Waitakere Stadium, Auckland and October 22 vs France at 7.15pm, Northland Events Centre Whangarei.
