Fiji’s lone female archer Chaandvi Prasad hopes to achieve a personal best shoot at the Pacific Mini Games in Palau later this month.
Despite her busy work schedule as a medical doctor, she makes time to train from wherever she works. Recently she was working and training in Labasa.
Prasad keeps a constant contact with her online with her coach.
“I send him videos and he’s able to guide me online,” she said.
“I just got in Suva last week and I’m able to train here with my team.”
Prasad said she is focused and dedicated to her training after her leave from work.
“It has been a bit difficult for me but I’m trying to do as much as possible, trying to shoot more arrows.
“If I’m not able to go to the grounds, I’m able to do some physical training at home as well.”
She is aiming for 580 at the Mini Games.
“My family and coach have been very supportive. My coach just tells me to train as hard as possible and to shoot as many arrows as possible,” Prasad said.
“My family told me to go and have fun.”
Prasad also confirmed that she has paid her $3000 levy.
“Our federation also had a fundraiser and lottery as well,” she said.
“I’d like to thank everyone who supported World Archery Fiji and everyone who supported me through the lottery tickets.”
Prasad indicated that she took a six months break after participating in last year’s Paris Olympic Games.
“I started prepping for Palau after my break. It wasn’t easy because for Archery once you stop for a month then you’ll have to start all over again,” she said.
“I’m trying to improve myself, I was lucky to train under one of the best coaches in Korea, Kim Hyung Tak.”
Prasad has also shared the knowledge and skill she acquired during her Olympic training to her teammates.
“I am very excited for the Games and I’m very proud to be part of Team Fiji being the only female archer,” she added.
