Asco Motors Backs Fiji Paralympics

The Fiji Paralympic Committee (FPC) received a timely boost of $10,000 from Asco Motors to assist in their prepa­rations for the 2020 Paralympics Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Speaking during the press conference yes­terday, ASCO Motors chief executive officer Craig Sims said he was pleased with the op­portunity to work with the FPC as they hope to promote gender equality and inclusive­ness in sports.

“It is with great pleasure that we are provid­ing our first cheque handover to Fiji Para­lympics Committee,” Sims said.

“So basically, how our system works is $10 for every Toyota product sold and $5 for every Yamaha product sold.

“This will be roughly around $30,000. So we will give out the first cheque of $10,000 and another two more installments in another two months.

“And the reason why we are engaged in this is to pretty much in the lead up to the Olym­pics and creating an environment of gender equality and inclusiveness in sports.

“In terms of our core sponsorship we are quite heavy with our partnership with the Fiji Paralympics Committee but we have also become the major lottery sponsor for FAS­NOC.

“We also have plans to support at least one paralympic to go to Tokyo for 2020 Olympic Games.

“We will also run a fundraiser sometimes in the next 12 months leading up to the 2020 Olympics to generate a bit more extra funds as well.

“We can really see how we can get involved and assist at the same time. And at the cor­porate level Toyota is the global sponsor of the Olympics and Paralympics so we are just following the league.

“Also Asco being a member of the Fijian Society we want to make sure that we are actively involved in promoting an inclusive society.”

FPC president Shaenaz Voss was apprecia­tive of the sponsorship from Asco Motors.

“The Fiji Paralympic Committee and the Paralympian family would like to extend our deepest appreciation and commendation to the CEO of ASCO Motors and his team for this wonderful gesture of goodwill.

“The $10,000 handover and the adoption of one of our Paralympic athletes which will happen later in the year, is a testament of Toyota’s instinctive value and commitment that the brand becoming a global, icon and respective brand of quality.

“That is consistent with its high standards globally recognised and as an ardent sup­porter of sports especially the paralympics. And we value the partnership that has begun with Asco Motors here in Fiji.

“Today Asco Motors are partnering with some well-known brands to give the Paralym­pic sport in Fiji the much-needed boost and support.

“Asco Motors today stands on alongside Fiji Airways and Fiji Water to support our ath­letes. We are really grateful to Asco Motors, Fiji Airways, Fiji Water and the British High Commission for stepping up.

“These sponsors have also taken up the baton to run alongside our para athletes as they will be embarking on their journey of sporting excellence. Fiji Paralympics will be launching its inclusive framework in the coming days to create a platform to nurture, develop and enhance the chances of boosting the capacity of our para athletes.

“We are encouraging all our sporting fed­erations to support and work with FPC.

“They are many untapped opportunities to increase our medal prospects and FPC has created through its eight level inclusive framework the ideal structure and condition to capture the best possible ways forward as head towards the exciting times.”
