‘Athletics In The Morning, Rugby At Noon’

The Ana Kolinisau captained- Ba Methodist High School (BMHS) Under-18 girls’ team has qualified for the Weet-Bix Raluve Trophy Western quarterfi­nals to be played at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, next week.

This weekend, some of the rugby girls will put on their track shoes and represent the school at the Coca-Cola Games at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

The BMHS better known as ‘Mata­velo’ finished as runners- up in the Ba/Tavua/Ra Secondary School Zone.

This was after the side drew 10-10 with Xavier College, lost 10-0 to zone winner Ra High School before they hammered Ba Sanatan Col­lege 31-0 in their final zonal match.

BMHS Head of Department PEMAC David Wise said the school had a lesser pool of rugby players but continues to punch above its weight.

“In our rugby team we also have athletes that will be competing in the Coca-Cola Games too,” Wise said.

“They train in the morning for athletics and in the afternoon they are serious about rugby.”

Interestingly, the side is made up of sprinters Kolinisau who plays number eight alongside her twin sister Wasa who runs in the back­line.

The duo will be part of the school’s 4x100 metres senior girls relay at the Coca-Cola Games.

This was after they helped the school win gold at the Ba Zone.

Also. Joy Wise, who plays at flank­er will compete in the shotput and discus events.

She won gold medals from both events during the Ba Zone. She is the daughter of former Ba football striker Robert Wise.

Furthermore, the Aseri Nakeke coached- side will await the com­pletion of the Nadroga Navosa Raluve Trophy zone competition to determine who they play in the quarterfinal.

The Nailaga, Ba, based institu­tion was established in 1899 as Matavelo Girls School. In 1964, the school was renamed as Ba Method­ist High School.
