The Nilesh Ram-captained Ba side is the first team to qualify for the quarterfinals of the 2019 Dakshina India Andhra Sangam Inter-District Championship scheduled for Sunday.
This is after the defending champion’s edged neighbours Lautoka 2-1 in their Pool 2 clash at the Xavier College ground yesterday.
The host took the lead through Rajnesh Krishna in the 20th minute before last year’s runners-up replied with a penalty kick.
In the last 15 minutes under the wet and slippery ground conditions, Kavnil Lingam found the net as Ba continued to prove its dominance over the Blues.
The team is made up of players from the Rarawai Andhra in the likes of Muni Sangaiya, Kunal Lingam, Avishek Deo, Rahul Ram and goalie Karunesh Krishan.
Team manager Satya Raj said; “We did manage to beat Lautoka. The boys did certainly deliver once again. Now we have a bye in day two so we await the quarterfinals on Sunday since we had only two teams in Pool 2.”
Andhra Young Men Association secretary Nilesh Naidu said they expect the competition to up the tempo once again.
“Indeed the competition started with a bang and we hope the best team wins on Sunday.” he said.
Day one results: Gallau 4-0 Nasinu, Ba 2-1 Lautoka, Sigatoka 0- 4 Nadi, Velovelo 1-1 Varadoli.
