The Ba Sanatan College Under-18 rugby playing girls are balancing their time between two sports every weekend; football and rugby.
They have been playing football before confirming their participation in the inaugural Weet-Bix Raluve competition.
The Raluve competition is the rugby competition for secondary school girls.
BSC Physical Education, Music and Art and Craft (PEMAC) head of department Shynal Krishna confirmed that the same set of girls play dual codes.
“We have not played football since 2019, so the girls started again this year in the Ba Secondary Schools Football Association competition,” Krishna said.
“Rugby is a first for most of them but they have shown interest in it. They are talented and can play more than one sport.
“It is all about women empowerment in sports; seeing how our women excel internationally in the Fijiana 7s and Fijiana Drua really boost these young girls.
“They could be the next one wearing that jersey and representing Fiji,” Krishna added.
“We have liaised with the organizers about the fixtures as the two competitions run simultaneously.”
He indicated a few members of the team will also take part in the Fiji finals which will be held at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva on August 18-20.
Most of the girls will also play netball after the football competition ends in about three weeks.
BSC are on bye this week after they lost 15-0 to Xavier College in Round One.
