The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team will meet Spain next Tuesday in a warm up match as they prepare for the World Rugby Sevens Series in Las Vegas on March 2-4.
This was confirmed to SUN sports by head coach Gareth Baber yesterday. The team will depart for Vegas from Nadi International Airport today.
“We will be playing Spain on Tuesday (February 27) and we have other match-ups building up to the game in order to get us to the level that we need to be,” Baber said.
The match-ups would also be a good acclimatising platform for the players building up to the three days tournament.
He is confident of his players doing well in this tournament and said that they were very fortunate to have their injured players back on the side.
“We have been blessed to now have our players come back from injury so this is a good move and I am confident with how we are training and preparing.”
Pool
The Fijian 7s team tops Pool A alongside Kenya, France and Russia. In Pool B, South Africa will play England, Canada and Wales.
Baber said they had played these teams recently and they had a lot on their plate.
“Kenya is a very physical side and unpredictable like ourselves and we have got to watch how we play the game.”
He said they were aware of France’s unpredictability and their game had to be on the money when facing the Les Blues.
“Obviously for Russia we will have to make sure that we create something in our game and go away with it.”
