Baleitamavua Hooked To Sports

Milika Baleitamavua, is a no quitter when it comes to sports.

The Touch Rugby player has represented the country at the Fiji Caps Trans-Tasman, 2019 World Cup and the Pacific Games as well.

She views sports as a stepping stone to a better life.

“You’ve got to be confident in your sporting talents and skills,” Baleitamavua said.

“For every door that closes in your career right now, there will be another door swinging open leading you to exciting new opportunities that you’d never dreamed of.”

The 23-year-old, is arguably one of the most lethal attacking touch rugby players in the country at the moment.

She is also good defensively. Her field vision together with her understanding of the rules and the basics of the game is what sets her apart from the others.

Other sports

Baleitamavua, is a firefighter based at the National Fire Authority’s Walu Bay base in Suva.

She has been working there for three years.

Baleitamavua said her fitness from playing sports has helped improve her fire-fighting skills.

She took up Touch Rugby when it was introduced to the Browning Bombers.

“I took up touch rugby in my teens. I was at home and this team usually train at the community ground near us.

“Watching them train I decided to join them and that time I was only 16,” she said.

Baleitamavua hails from Malawai, Gau in the Lomaiviti Group.

She attended Marcellin Primary School and Gospel High School.

“I was very active in sports. I’ve represented my school in netball competitions. In athletics, I took part at the Coca- Cola Games as well.”

Standing at 1.62metres tall and she plays centre or wing. For the 2021 Franchise Touch Rugby League, Baleitamavua is going to play for Makosoi Blues.

The competition will resume as soon as the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
