You cannot underestimate the Fijian flair, says Fijian-born Highlanders’ winger Mosese Dawai.

The Bucalevu, Nakorotubu, Ra native, who arrived with his teammates on Monday night, made the comment soon after touchdown at the Nadi International Airport. The team then flew over to Nausori to get to Suva to prepare for their Super Rugby Pacific clash against the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua at the ANZ Stadium on Saturday.

Dawai, who has been impressive this season with the Highlanders, with six starts and six tries so far, has no doubt that his Fijian brothers will come out firing playing in front of their home fans.

“There will be a lot of Fijian flair, you just cannot underestimate them. We will have to do our best with our game plan to stop them,” he said.

With hopes of getting selected to face the Drua on Saturday, Fijian rugby fans can expect to see some brilliance from Dawai on the field.

“It will be a good run. We’ll find out on Saturday,” he said.

One thing is sure though for Dawai. He is not alone because a busload of Highlanders’ fans from Ra and Nadi are likely to be in Suva to cheer him on.

His mother too is expected to fly in from Auckland, New Zealand, while his father, who has been following him around, flew in from Melbourne, Australia, early this week.

“It is good to be back to see how families are and spend time with them including my grandmother who is still alive. It is special being back home; it has been long since COVID-19 struck,” Dawai said.

He joined Highlanders this year following an impressive campaign with the premiership winning Waikato side.

The Highlanders take on Fijian Drua at 4.35pm.
